Fatal Crashes in Brazil and Switzerland, Multi-Vehicle Collision in Sweden

A head-on collision in Brazil and an E-bike crash in Switzerland each left one dead, while a three-car pileup in Sweden injured several, according to local authorities.

One person died and two were injured in a head-on collision between a car and a lorry on the BR-343 highway near Amarante, in Brazil’s Piauí state, during the early hours of Friday, according to the 18th Military Police Battalion. The victim, who has not been publicly identified, was trapped in the wreckage of the car. The lorry driver was unhurt. Separately, a 78-year-old man riding an E-bike died at the scene after colliding with a car on the Zugerstrasse outside Wädenswil, Switzerland, on Friday afternoon, the Zurich cantonal police reported. The 20-year-old driver and her passenger were uninjured.

In Sweden, eight people were involved in a three-car collision at an intersection in Fornåsa, near Motala, on Friday evening. Emergency services transported one person to hospital with injuries of unclear severity, while the other seven were assessed at the scene. Swedish police later confirmed they are investigating one individual for drug-impaired driving in connection with the crash. No life-threatening injuries were immediately reported.

Swedish transport authorities also issued warnings for two separate incidents involving roe deer straying onto carriageways. On the E18 between Ekolskrog and Åsen, a deer on the wrong side of a wildlife fence disrupted traffic in both directions late Friday night, with the hazard expected to persist into the early hours of Saturday. Earlier in the day, a similar alert was active on the E4 near Björnsnäs, though the situation was resolved by early afternoon. Trafikverket assessed both events as having minor traffic impact.

Brazilian federal highway police and forensic teams are investigating the circumstances of the BR-343 crash; preliminary accounts suggest the lorry driver swerved to avoid an animal on the road. Swiss prosecutors and accident specialists are examining the cause of the Wädenswil collision, which remains unclear. Swedish authorities have not released further details on the Fornåsa injuries or the drug-driving inquiry.
