विशेषज्ञ भालुओं की बढ़ती आबादी, ग्रामीण इलाकों में घटती मानवीय उपस्थिति और जलवायु परिवर्तन के कारण प्राकृतिक भोजन की अनियमित उपलब्धता को इन घटनाओं के लिए जिम्मेदार मानते हैं। इवाते प्रान्त की प्रकृति शाखा की भालू विशेषज्ञ शिहो चिदा का कहना है कि एक ही भालू का बार-बार एक ही स्थान पर घुसना असामान्य है। फिलहाल भालू की तलाश जारी है और उसे पकड़ने के प्रयास किए जा रहे हैं।
