Sean Combs, the music producer known as Diddy, was placed in solitary confinement this week after a physical clash with another inmate at the federal prison in Fort Dix, New Jersey, where he is serving a 50-month sentence, according to multiple news reports in the United States. The 56-year-old has been held at the low-security facility since October 2025.

Sources familiar with the incident, cited by American broadcasters and online outlets, said the altercation began when another prisoner made a remark that Combs perceived as disrespectful. The rapper responded physically, leading to shoving and punches before prison staff intervened and separated the men. Combs was then removed to an isolation unit. It remained unclear late on Friday whether the other inmate also faced disciplinary measures or how long Combs would be kept in solitary.

European media, including publications in Germany and Sweden, carried similar accounts, though none offered additional confirmation from authorities. A spokesperson for the Federal Bureau of Prisons, commenting to US outlets, said the agency does not discuss individual inmates’ conditions of confinement, disciplinary matters, or allegations, citing privacy and security concerns.

Combs was convicted in a Manhattan federal court last year on two counts of transportation for purposes of prostitution, following a trial that drew extensive global coverage. Prosecutors described so-called “freak offs” – elaborate, drug-fuelled sexual gatherings. He was acquitted of the more serious charges of racketeering conspiracy and sex trafficking. Under his current sentence, with good conduct, his scheduled release date is February 2028. However, the fight could lead to disciplinary sanctions that postpone that date. The rapper is separately appealing his conviction, a process that has continued during his incarceration.

A representative for Combs, contacted by US reporters, offered no comment. The Bureau of Prisons has not formally acknowledged the altercation, and the incident’s longer-term repercussions for the inmate’s custody status remain under review.
