Bayern Munich Confirm Nathaniel Brown Signing in Record Bundesliga Deal
The 23-year-old Germany left-back joins from Eintracht Frankfurt for a fee that German media say makes it the most expensive internal transfer in league history.
Bayern Munich announced on Friday the capture of Nathaniel Brown from Eintracht Frankfurt, securing the Germany international on a contract that runs until 2031. The deal, confirmed after the defender completed a two-part medical in Munich, was reported by German media to be worth a base fee of €50 million, with up to €5 million in performance-related bonuses. Bild described the sum as the highest ever paid for a player moving between Bundesliga clubs, while Spanish-language outlets and international wire services cited a total package of around €55 million ($63 million).
Brown, a left-back born in the Bavarian town of Amberg, made 75 appearances for Frankfurt, contributing seven goals and 13 assists. Last season he featured in all but one of their league matches, and his rapid development earned him a Germany debut in October. At the 2026 World Cup, he started three of four games, scoring and assisting in a 7-1 group-stage win over Curaçao before the hosts were eliminated by Paraguay on penalties in the round of 16. Indonesian reports quoted the player saying conversations with head coach Vincent Kompany had been decisive: “He showed me how he sees me and my development, and absolutely convinced me.”
The signing adds depth to a position where Alphonso Davies has struggled with injuries. Bayern’s sporting director Max Eberl, cited in German and Indonesian media, hinted Brown could also be deployed in midfield, noting his “accents set at the World Cup”. The move follows Wednesday’s announcement of Moroccan international Ismael Saibari from PSV Eindhoven, a forward who scored three goals at the World Cup, including the decisive penalty against the Netherlands. Together, the two transfers represent an outlay of more than €100 million as the club retools for the 2026/27 campaign.
Bayern are coming off a domestic double and a Champions League semi-final appearance. Spanish-language reports highlighted that Saibari will compete for minutes in an attack already featuring Harry Kane, Luis Díaz, Nicolas Jackson and Michael Olise. Brown, meanwhile, will challenge Davies for the left-back spot when he joins the squad after a post-World Cup holiday. The club’s CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen said the transfer underlined Bayern’s “claim to bind young German top players early”, a philosophy he described as part of the club’s DNA.
Brown’s arrival is the latest step in a rapid rise: he joined Frankfurt from Nuremberg in 2024 for just €3 million. Now, as the most expensive internal Bundesliga transfer, he will be expected to help Bayern defend their league and cup titles when the new season begins.
