Arrests Across Continents Target Drug Networks, Child Abuse, and Violent Crime
Police operations in Australia, Argentina, Brazil, Canada, and Mexico lead to dozens of charges, with children rescued and drugs seized.
Law enforcement agencies on three continents have announced a wave of arrests and charges this week, targeting alleged drug manufacturing, child exploitation, and violent offences. In Australia, two men were charged after police seized almost 64 kilograms of drugs—including methylamphetamine and cocaine—with an estimated street value exceeding A$2.5 million in Port Stephens, New South Wales, according to state police. A separate domestic violence operation in Sydney’s north-west saw 17 alleged high-risk offenders arrested on charges ranging from assault to sexual intercourse with a child under 10, authorities said.
In Western Australia, a 53-year-old man from Albany faces multiple child abuse-related charges after Australian Border Force officers allegedly found child abuse material on his phone at Perth Airport. Intelligence shared with Philippine authorities led to the rescue of six children in the Philippines, the Australian Federal Police confirmed. Meanwhile, a 31-year-old French national residing in Perth was charged after border officers allegedly discovered 50 grams of butanediol, a restricted substance, concealed in a body wash bottle upon her arrival from Thailand.
Across the Americas, police in Argentina’s Buenos Aires province arrested a 19-year-old man in La Plata in connection with an armed robbery; the operation triggered clashes with relatives and neighbours that left one officer injured and a patrol car damaged, according to local police. In the same region, two suspects with prior theft convictions were detained near a bank in Gonnet after security staff reported them handling a signal jammer, a device often linked to vehicle theft. Brazilian authorities in Sergipe state arrested three men from different states who were allegedly installing equipment to infiltrate bank systems and divert funds; no financial losses were confirmed. In Mexico City, prosecutors secured the pre-trial detention of a man accused of raping and robbing a 17-year-old girl at knifepoint in Tláhuac, relying on video surveillance to identify him.
In Canada, Alberta RCMP charged a 32-year-old man with sexual assault, abduction, and forcible confinement involving four complainants as young as 12. Police said the accused was released from custody twice by courts before his latest arrest, and they have released his photograph, urging other possible victims to come forward. All cases remain under investigation, with several accused persons in custody or subject to bail conditions, and no final judicial determinations have been reached.
