US Launches Sixth Night of Strikes on Iran as Hormuz Standoff Deepens
CENTCOM says operations aim to degrade military capabilities after Tehran allegedly violated a shipping accord, while Iranian media report explosions and casualties across southern provinces.
United States forces completed a sixth consecutive night of air and naval strikes against Iran on Friday, targeting what the military described as dozens of sites including coastal surveillance posts, air defence batteries, logistics infrastructure and naval assets. The latest wave, announced by Central Command (CENTCOM) at 9:40 pm Eastern Time, followed a fifth round earlier on Thursday and was carried out by fighter jets, drones and warships firing precision munitions. CENTCOM stated the operations, directed by President Donald Trump, are intended to “further degrade” Iranian military capabilities and to hold Tehran accountable for recent attacks on commercial shipping.
From Washington, the White House justified the escalation by accusing Iran of violating a memorandum of understanding signed on 18 June 2026, which, according to press secretary Karoline Leavitt, prohibited targeting merchant vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz. Leavitt said Trump remains “always open to diplomacy” but will not permit what she termed active terrorist acts in the waterway. Iranian officials, through state and semi-official media, have framed the US strikes as a resumption of military aggression and reported that Iranian armed forces have retaliated by striking what they call American-linked bases and facilities in neighbouring Arab states, including Kuwait, Bahrain and Jordan. Some of those governments have confirmed civilian casualties and damage to non-military infrastructure.
The confrontation has severely disrupted traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, the world’s most critical chokepoint for oil and gas shipments, driving global energy prices upward. Iranian authorities have reimposed restrictions on the strait, insisting vessels use a channel near its coast and signalling an intent to levy transit fees after a 60-day negotiation period. The US has responded by imposing a naval blockade on Iranian ports and encouraging shipping to use a southern lane near Oman. Iranian media reported explosions in Bandar Abbas, Bushehr, Qeshm Island, Ahvaz and Iranshahr, with at least two people killed and several wounded in Khamir district after a bridge was struck.
The cycle of strikes and counter-strikes follows the collapse of a brief truce established by the June memorandum. Viewed from Tehran, the US operations represent a breach of that accord, while Washington insists it is enforcing its terms. President Trump has threatened to target power plants and bridges next week if negotiations do not resume, and has not ruled out ground operations, including the possible seizure of Kharg Island, Iran’s main oil export terminal. With over 50,000 US troops deployed across the Middle East, according to CENTCOM, and no active diplomatic channel publicly acknowledged, the dossier remains in a phase of open military confrontation.

The United States is systematically degrading Iran's military capabilities through precise strikes, as we have documented from official statements and local reports.
By juxtaposing US military statements with Iranian casualty reports, the bloc presents itself as a neutral arbiter, lending credibility to both sides while subtly endorsing the US narrative of targeted strikes.
The bloc omits any mention of diplomatic overtures or the broader context of Iranian provocations that led to the strikes, focusing solely on the military operations.
The United States is waging an unjust war against Iran, using false pretexts to attack our military infrastructure. We expose their claims as propaganda and stand in solidarity with our armed forces.
By systematically labeling US statements as 'claims' and highlighting the US's own words, the bloc casts doubt on the legitimacy of the strikes and frames them as unprovoked aggression.
The bloc omits any reference to Iranian casualties or the broader context of Iranian provocations that might justify the US strikes, focusing solely on the US actions as aggressive.
The United States is conducting legitimate strikes against the Iranian regime, which has been a source of instability. We report the explosions as evidence of the effectiveness of the campaign.
By using the term 'regime' to delegitimize the Iranian government, the bloc frames the strikes as actions against an illegitimate entity, thereby justifying the military campaign.
The bloc omits any reference to civilian casualties or diplomatic efforts, focusing solely on the military campaign against the regime.
