Social media content creators die in separate incidents across three continents
A Florida influencer was shot dead in a targeted attack, an Argentine YouTuber died in a highway collision, and a Nigerian TikToker’s reported death remains unconfirmed by authorities.
A 21-year-old social media influencer was fatally shot while travelling in a luxury vehicle in Miramar, Florida, in the early hours of Sunday, according to local police. Brianna Johnson, known online as DreamDoll Brii, was a passenger in a lime-green Lamborghini Urus when a white sedan pulled alongside and opened fire, striking her and two male companions. The two men were hospitalised in critical condition. Police Chief Delrish Moss told US media that investigators believe the attackers targeted the vehicle specifically, though a motive has not been established.
Family members and law enforcement sources in Florida have described the hours preceding the shooting. The group had attended a large party and later stopped at a Shell petrol station, where a fight reportedly broke out. Surveillance footage obtained by local broadcasters shows a light-coloured car following the Lamborghini before gunfire is heard. The vehicle then drifted through an intersection and struck a house. Johnson, who had amassed roughly 470,000 followers across Instagram and TikTok and was known for the viral track Bend Ova, died at the scene. Police are appealing for tips and have not announced any arrests.
In Argentina, a separate tragedy claimed the life of 27-year-old YouTuber Sebastián Funes, known as Chatterbox, on Sunday afternoon. According to provincial police sources, Funes was travelling with his family on National Route 5 near Pehuajó when their Honda Civic collided with a lorry and a pickup truck. Funes and his father, who was driving, were killed. His mother and sister survived and were taken to hospital. The family had been en route to a funeral. Funes had over 1.7 million YouTube subscribers and was a prominent figure in Argentina’s gaming community, known for Fortnite and Stumble Guys content.
In Nigeria, reports circulated on Monday that TikTok creator Akube Nation had died in a car crash in Lagos. As of the time of reporting, neither the Lagos State Police Command nor the Federal Road Safety Corps had issued a statement, and no independent verification of the claims was available. A video shared online featured an unidentified man describing the events, but the account remains unconfirmed. Akube Nation was known for comedy skits and had ventured into online retail. Tributes have appeared on social media, though authorities have yet to confirm any fatality. Investigations into the Florida shooting and the Argentine collision are ongoing.
