Indonesian authorities seized 325 kilograms of methamphetamine and arrested two men in Aceh province, intercepting a consignment smuggled from Thailand by sea. The drugs, packed in Chinese tea packets, were discovered in a vehicle intercepted near Blang Mangat beach in Lhokseumawe on 23 June, according to the national police’s criminal investigation directorate.

The two suspects, who Indonesian police said acted as a boat skipper and a ground coordinator, were taken into custody after attempting to flee on foot. Officers recovered 13 sacks containing the methamphetamine, with an estimated street value of 585 billion rupiah, along with a vehicle, a boat, and mobile phones. Indonesian authorities are searching for two alleged masterminds identified only by their initials MJ and MHL, who remain at large, police said on Sunday.

In Nigeria, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency reported multiple interceptions. At Apapa port in Lagos, officials said 13 containers of illicit drugs had been seized over the past year, including 162 tonnes of codeine syrup, while the most recent operation netted 4,959 kilograms of Canadian Loud cannabis valued at 12.4 billion naira. A businesswoman was arrested at the Lagos international airport with 7.5 kilograms of cocaine hidden in luggage bound for Beijing, and a syndicate that planted methamphetamine in passengers’ bags at bus stations was dismantled. The agency also concluded a week of engagement with Muslim clerics in Kano to strengthen community prevention. Meanwhile, Hong Kong police raided a typhoon shelter and seized 241 kilograms of cocaine worth HK$180 million, arresting three people, including the alleged ringleader, in the city’s largest drug bust in a year. A separate Jakarta operation yielded just over one kilogram of methamphetamine and one arrest, while Israeli police shut down a drug lab in Haifa, finding seven kilograms of cannabis substances.

Indonesian investigators said the Aceh shipment was transferred from a foreign vessel at a maritime meeting point approximately 120 nautical miles from the Indonesia-Thailand border, using a ship-to-ship method. All agencies involved stated that investigations are continuing to trace financial flows and identify other accomplices.
