Authorities in Morocco, Lebanon, Iran and Indonesia have issued a series of weather warnings covering dangerously high temperatures, torrential rain and violent winds across swaths of North Africa, the Middle East and Southeast Asia. The alerts, published by national meteorological agencies on Friday and Saturday, advise millions of residents to limit outdoor activities and prepare for potential flooding, dust storms and heat-related illness.

In Morocco, the national meteorological service (DMN) forecast a gradual retreat of the scorching heatwave that sent temperatures soaring to 40–45°C in the interior south and east on Friday, with a temporary drop on Saturday before a renewed rise from Monday. Across Iran, the meteorological organisation warned that a hot air mass would persist over Tehran and other northern provinces into Monday, with the capital expected to reach 40°C, while overnight lows in some areas remained a mild 26°C.

Indonesian authorities placed more than a dozen provinces under a ‘Waspada’ (alert) category for moderate to heavy rainfall that could trigger river overflows, flash floods and landslides. The worst-affected areas include Aceh, North Sumatra, Riau and South Sulawesi, according to the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG). At the same time, Iranian forecasters warned of thunderstorms and potential flash flooding in the south-eastern provinces of Sistan-Baluchestan, Kerman and northern Hormozgan, where an orange-level alert has been issued, as well as in north-western regions such as Ardabil and East Azerbaijan.

Gale-force winds, in places accompanied by dust storms, were forecast from the Arabian Sea to the Caspian. Iran’s meteorological service issued yellow alerts for strong winds that could reduce visibility and air quality in 18 provinces, including Tehran, Isfahan and Khuzestan. In Lebanon, gusts reaching 50 km/h were expected in northern areas over the weekend, stirring rough seas with waves up to two metres, while the BMKG warned of similar dangerous winds across Sumatra, Java and Kalimantan. Lebanon’s meteorological department also cautioned against dense mountain fog that could complicate travel on high-altitude roads.

All warnings remained in effect as of Saturday morning, with authorities across the affected regions urging residents to monitor official bulletins and avoid unnecessary travel. No casualties or significant damage had been reported in connection with the forecast conditions as of press time.
