Global Spate of Domestic and Sexual Attacks Leaves Women Dead or Injured
From South Asia to South America, multiple incidents of lethal violence against women by partners or acquaintances were reported in a single weekend, according to local authorities.
A nurse in Hyderabad, a young woman in Las Heras, Argentina, and a mother in Mato Grosso, Brazil, are among the latest victims of a string of deadly assaults on women reported across four continents over the weekend. Police in several countries have confirmed arrests, while other suspects remain at large, after domestic disputes and sexual attacks escalated into lethal violence.
In South Asia, Indian police said a 37-year-old nurse was stabbed to death by her husband in Hyderabad following years of alleged harassment over suspected infidelity. A woman in Bengaluru was drugged and raped by five men who lured her to a fake birthday party, according to investigators. In Delhi, a 20-year-old woman was arrested for strangling her husband in front of his mother after he accused her of an extramarital affair. Authorities in Lahore, Pakistan, are investigating the kidnapping and gang rape of two foreign women; one victim testified that the main suspect—a relative of the deputy prime minister—demanded a cryptocurrency ransom.
Across Latin America, similar violence unfolded. A 33-year-old woman in Confresa, Brazil, was stabbed to death by her partner, who later turned himself in; police noted she had an active protective order against him. In Paraná state, a man under the influence of crack confessed to beating a woman and leaving her in critical condition for 14 hours without aid. Argentine authorities reported that the principal suspect in the killing of a 24-year-old woman in Las Heras surrendered voluntarily. According to prosecutors’ data, Mato Grosso state alone has recorded 26 femicides this year, the majority committed by current or former partners.
The incidents highlight the persistence of intimate-partner violence across regions, with jealousy, substance abuse, and prior domestic complaints frequently cited by investigators. In several cases, legal safeguards such as protective orders were in place but failed to prevent the attacks. Authorities in each country are continuing inquiries, with some suspects remanded in custody and others still being sought.
