Domestic Violence Cases Reported Across Four Nations, Suspects Detained or Sought

Authorities in Mexico, Japan, Kenya, and Brazil investigate separate alleged assaults involving partners or housemates, with victims sustaining injuries from stabbings, acid, and other violence.

Separate incidents of alleged domestic violence have been reported by authorities in four countries, each involving accusations of physical attacks within shared living arrangements. In Mexico City, a 39-year-old woman was detained after her male partner, 44, was stabbed during a dispute in the Benito Juárez borough, according to the city’s Secretariat of Citizen Security. In Japan, police in Ibaraki Prefecture arrested a 49-year-old woman on suspicion of sewing her 42-year-old housemate’s lips shut with a needle and thread. Kenyan police in Migori County are pursuing a husband accused of pouring a chemical believed to be acid on his wife and slashing her with a machete. In northern Brazil, a 27-year-old woman told military police she was punched by her partner after asking him to return 300 reais via instant payment.

In the Mexico City case, officers responding to a report of an injured person on Calle Altamira found the victim, who said he had been attacked moments earlier. A search of the suspect yielded a knife with a metal handle, the SSC said. She was transferred to the public prosecutor’s office, where her legal status will be determined. The victim’s condition was not detailed beyond the initial wounding.

The Japanese case came to light after the alleged victim, unable to speak, fled the house in Koga city while the suspect was away. Wearing a face mask, she entered a nearby shop and handed a staff member a handwritten note reading “Please help me,” police said. The victim later told investigators she had been too afraid to escape earlier. The two women had been living together since around April 2025, and local media report that the suspect had a history of sheltering people who had left their homes. Police are questioning other occupants of the property and have not disclosed whether the suspect has admitted to the allegation.

In Kenya, the victim, Sharon Eunice, alleged that her husband attacked her on July 6 while she was doing household chores, pouring a chemical on her and slashing her with a panga over a disagreement dating back to 2022. Neighbours responded to her screams and took her to hospital. Rongo Sub-County Police Commander Salim Fundi confirmed the incident and said officers are pursuing the suspect, who remains at large. In Boa Vista, Brazil, the woman told police she was struck after demanding the return of money held in her partner’s account; one blow caused her head to hit a wall, leaving a swollen forehead. The man denied the assault and was taken to a police station. Investigations in all four cases are ongoing.
