Brazilian Woman Sentenced in Seoul for Stalking BTS Star, Faces Deportation

A suspended prison term and likely expulsion follow repeated visits to Jungkook's home, including ringing his doorbell 133 times.

A Brazilian national has been handed a one-year suspended prison sentence by a district court in Seoul for stalking and trespassing at the residence of Jungkook, a member of the K-pop group BTS. The Seoul Western District Court, presided over by Judge Park Ji-won, suspended the term for two years and indicated that the woman, aged 30, will be deported to Brazil once the verdict becomes final, unless a successful appeal is lodged. She had been in detention since late February, according to Brazilian consular sources, following a series of incidents that began in December 2024.

According to South Korean court documents, the defendant visited the singer’s home 22 times over roughly one month, leaving letters and photographs, and on one occasion rang the doorbell 133 times in a single night. The court noted as aggravating factors that she persisted despite a police warning and violated an emergency protection order barring her from approaching within 100 metres of the property. Jungkook, through his legal representatives, requested a severe punishment. In mitigation, the bench assessed that the defendant acted out of a desire to express affection rather than to cause physical harm, that she did not access interior rooms, and that the risk of re-offending in South Korea was low given her impending deportation.

Family members in Brazil, speaking to local media, stated that the woman has a diagnosed psychiatric disorder and had travelled to Seoul without informing relatives. They described her as being in a state of psychological crisis, believing the artist to be her destined partner, and expressed hope that deportation would allow her to receive medical care at home. The Brazilian embassy in Seoul has been contacted by the family and is monitoring the case, though no official statement has yet been issued.

Viewed from Seoul, the case is the latest in a pattern of intrusive fan behaviour targeting BTS members. In 2025, a Chinese woman was arrested attempting to enter Jungkook’s residence hours after his discharge from military service. The artist’s management company, Bighit Music, has repeatedly reinforced security protocols and warned that such incidents would be referred to prosecutors. The current sentence is subject to appeal, but if upheld, deportation proceedings will commence, effectively closing the South Korean chapter of the case.
