Bernal and Dumfries complete moves as Taremi and Leao futures hang in balance

Fluminense's Facundo Bernal joins Real Betis and Inter's Denzel Dumfries moves to Real Madrid, while Olympiacos' Mehdi Taremi and Milan's Rafael Leao attract interest from across Europe and beyond.

The summer transfer window has delivered two confirmed moves. Fluminense announced the sale of Uruguayan midfielder Facundo Bernal to Real Betis, while Inter Milan confirmed that Dutch full-back Denzel Dumfries has joined Real Madrid. Both deals were finalised on Monday, with Bernal signing a contract until June 2031 and Dumfries committing to the Spanish champions until 2030 after Real Madrid exercised a release clause reported at around €20 million.

Bernal, 21, arrived at Fluminense from Defensor Sporting in August 2024 and made 83 appearances for the Brazilian club, earning a call-up to the Uruguay national team during World Cup qualifying. His move to Betis, for an undisclosed fee, comes after he featured in the 2025 Club World Cup. Dumfries, 28, leaves Inter after five seasons, 207 appearances, 27 goals and 28 assists. “From day one I gave everything for these colours and for this club,” he said in a farewell message. Inter are already working on a replacement, with Belgian winger Anan Khalaili of Union Saint-Gilloise close to a €25 million move, according to Italian reports.

In Greece, Olympiacos face uncertainty in attack. Iranian striker Mehdi Taremi, who scored 10 league goals and added two in the Champions League last season, is exploring options in England, Italy and Turkey, his representatives have confirmed. The club are also monitoring interest in Ukrainian forward Roman Yaremchuk, with French media linking him to a return to Lyon for around €5 million, and Brazilian winger Clayton, who has drawn attention from Turkish sides. Olympiacos’s management now believe the forward line could change more than initially expected, and the club is preparing to sign two new strikers this summer.

Rafael Leao’s future at AC Milan is the subject of growing speculation. The Portuguese winger, currently at the World Cup with his national team, is waiting for offers from the Premier League or La Liga, his preferred destinations. Turkish club Galatasaray have made informal contact, but any move would require them to free up a foreign-player slot. Saudi Pro League clubs have also expressed interest, with the financial capacity to meet Milan’s reported €60 million valuation, though Leao has so far kept that option on standby. Milan, who have already signed striker Gonçalo Ramos, are prepared to let Leao leave if a suitable bid arrives, with agent Jorge Mendes leading negotiations.

The window remains open, and further movement is expected. For Bernal and Dumfries, the focus shifts to pre-season with their new clubs in Spain. Taremi’s decision will shape Olympiacos’s summer recruitment, while Leao’s situation is unlikely to be resolved until after the World Cup. In the meantime, the market continues to generate activity across continents.
