Catalan police confirmed that an attempted burglary took place in the early hours of Wednesday at a residence in Esplugues de Llobregat, an affluent suburb of Barcelona. Authorities did not name the homeowner, citing privacy rules, but multiple Catalan media outlets identified the property as the home of Spain and Barcelona forward Lamine Yamal. The incident occurred around 4 a.m. local time, just hours after Spain defeated France 2–0 in Texas to reach the final of the 2026 World Cup, a match in which Yamal won the penalty that led to the opening goal.

According to police and press accounts, two individuals wearing balaclavas scaled the perimeter wall of the property. Private security personnel monitoring surveillance cameras spotted the intruders and confronted them; the suspects fled immediately, without entering the house or taking any items. No injuries were reported. The Mossos d’Esquadra, Catalonia’s regional police force, dispatched a patrol to the scene and the criminal investigation division has taken over the case, examining security footage and searching for forensic evidence.

Catalan media noted that the house is well known locally: it was previously the family home of former Barcelona defender Gerard Piqué and Colombian singer Shakira. Yamal purchased the mansion, valued at around €11 million, in October 2025. The player is currently in the United States with the Spanish national team, which will contest the World Cup final on Sunday.

Police are also investigating at least one other attempted break-in in the same gated community during the same night, raising the possibility that a gang was targeting high-value properties in the area. The incident adds to a string of burglaries and attempted burglaries at the homes of elite footballers in Spain in recent years; past victims include Karim Benzema, Rodrygo, and Dani Carvajal. No arrests have been made, and the investigation remains open.
